Soap, Powder, Clothes...

A few months ago I was lucky enough to work with a group of very talented individuals to produce these shots entitled: 'Soap, Powder, Clothes...' The photography was by the very talented Sangwoo Park and the styling was by myself. The look was inspired by the 50's woman but with a pop of modern colour.

I brought this coat and some other bits from Modcloth last year. As it's an American site I personally can not afford to order from them all the time. Their prices are good and delivery was reasonable but I got absolutely slaughtered paying the tax once it arrived. I still love going on their website and looking at all of their beautiful things. They not only sell clothes but a life style, catering for the home and body. They always promote each feature in a uniquely creative way ranging from illustration to fantastic use of typography and photography. The bag is a vintage vanity case which I love because of the unique shape. Instead of being round it's actually shaped like a tear drop.

There's nothing like a little bit of saturday morning self indulgence. Getting ready in my opinion is just as  good as actually going out. And lounging ... omg! It's my 'Dream World!' Doing nothing but still looking good in the progress is a dream come true, but at the same time so hard to pull off. I am not going to lie, I love my bed, I love sleeping, I love watching TV! And these photos sum everything up for me.

Even though you can't actually see, the underwear I am rocking is my What Katie Did lingerie. I've been going through a lingerie blitz for a good few months now. It all started with an unfortunate event while out shopping with a friend. Shame will not allow me to go into it but please people remember when your mothers would tell you to make sure you underwear matches? She honestly said it for a reason and I will  never make that mistake again. Ok... I've said too much.

Natural Spotlight

My hair, I had this thought today, that since I've been blogging out of everything I've spoken about I haven't really touched on my hair. Which is a bit of a shame I think, as I spend so much time trying different things with it. I am actually fully natural and have been on the 'journey' since 2007. While traveling around the world I had braids and once we got to Brazil I decided to take out the plaits and never relax my hair again. It was as simple as that and I've never looked back since. Some days I'm happy with my hair other days I'm not. I love reading blogs that celebrate natural hairstyles and trust me there are a lot! But other times I do think I'm a traitor because I press my hair and wear weaves sometimes. I just could not be natural every day of the year. I like to change it about too much. But if you are looking for inspiration two of my favourite blogs are Naturally Obsessed and Lecoil

This advert that I saw on Currently Obsessed says it all. It's actually for anti-drug website but the message is still strong in all aspects of life. Be a trendsetter.

P.S. I'll try and do more posts with my natural hair! xx

Jammer - Back to the 90's Video Shoot

Yesterday was like a Back to the Future experience for me! I assisted Sarah Young on the video shoot for Jammers 'Back to the 90s' which was 'a myth'. The video concept was a true 1990's house party so all the clothes used were in true spirit of the era. I'm talking 'off key' Moschino trousers, Ralph jumpers and shell suit jackets! And as we all know this year is going to be all about looking back to the 90's in fashion. So a lot of the trainers that were used although fresh out the box looked like they were at home within the mc/spitting scene. I also had the pleasure of meeting Verena who is currently doing a documentary looking at the whole grime scene. If you can check it out. It's a very interesting blog documenting everything that's going on. If you don't know, get to know; Kids of the Underground

Pop Girl, Girl Power Shoot - GoldieLocks

A little known talent that I very rarely share is that I actually did a course in Indian Bridal make-up. I know completely random ... but I thought it would help with my use of colour in my work and I am now certified. However having not actually done it in a good few years, my 'talents' were called upon for a shoot with Sarah Young (DJ/Stylist) to do make-up on her 'Pop Girl | Girl Power' shoot. She was styling a talented UK producer/artist/DJ called Goldie Locks. Here are a few shots follow the link to see more!

Bangers and Mashed!

I have to say this has been one of the most exhausting weeks ever! styling in the day and graphics at night. But when yo want to do something you find the energy and you do it! These photos were taken at the brink of my exhaustion.

I went to go and see Sarah Young DJ-ing  at the MGMT after party which was hosted by Bangers and Mash. It was a Thursday and so the crowd reflected that only the die hard ravers attended. It was a chance for me to road test my high shines so that was fun. And to be honest you may see a lot of them in the future. I got them from american apparel and now have them in both blue and black! I just feel like I'm in grease when I put them on.

Vintage at Goodwood

Firstly I have to admit I have been rather absent with the updates on the blog. But I have been very busy and I am now 100% here! Over the next few days I will get up to date with everything that has happened over the past few months. I have been blessed enough to have been given some great opportunities and had some good experiences. So firstly I'm going to start with Vintage at Goodwood. Although a few months ago now the event is still worth sharing. The vibe the clothes it was all a very worthwhile experience.

Stairway to ...

These shots were taken in an absolutely amazing restaurant near Liverpool street station called Kenza. A beautiful Moroccan restaurant which has an amazing spiral staircase that leads down into the restaurant. And this was just the entrance, belly dancers, beautiful food! If you ever get the chance I'd say it was a definite must! xx

The Long Walk Home..

I love these shoes! I got them on sell ages ago but still cannot manage to walk too far in them without having to stop every 5 minutes. They are the highest heels I own! I know you have dinner shoes but these aren't really dinner shoes. I think they're just everyday wear! You know for those long walks home. x

Summer Mumma...

This is just an excuse to do what I love to do! Get dressed up and take random shots when the sun is out!
I love summer I'd say I was definitely a 'summer bunny' xx

Africa Calling!

I don't think I'm best at embracing my true roots. At school I became very interested in black history and spent a few years researching embracing and finding out about where I came from. I think we all go through the 'Black Power' phase at one point in our lives. Some continue with it and take it on in every way the possibly can. I however choose to learn from the past and move on.

Grace Kelly Style Icon Exhibit - V&A

Firstly, maybe deciding to go to this exhibit after a night shift was not the best idea. However I really enjoyed it even though I was half asleep and sipping endless amounts of coffee. I’ve always had an admiration of the style of the women from Graces era. I was very intrigued to find out more about what actually made her have such an impact on the fashion world.

Absence of Light

There has been a delay since my last update, I apologise. I have been so busy with work! But I did manage to get these amazing shots at the weekend on my way from Yum Yums, a great Thai restaurant in North London.

Sunday, 4 April 2010

This bank holiday saw the first American Apparel Swag sell in London. And from the way the first day went... I thought it was going to be the last! People went absolutely crazy! With more people turning up then I they had anticipated. Luckily I was at work otherwise I sooo would have been there too ( I love a bargain).

I did however manage the capture the crazy antics on YOUTUBE:

It looks bad, I know! But because of this everyone was untitled to a 25% discount which I happily took advantage of.

Then on the Saturday I went down with my friend Chantelle. They opened early and I got a few bargains which included Cotton Spandex Jersey Deep U Dress , two Poplin Cross-Front Dresses and Cotton Spandex Micro-Mesh Gloria-V Bodysuit which I honestly do not know where I will wear but, you know, what you gonna do? lol

Ok, for some time now I've been wanting to start a fashion blog. And after another talk with my boyfriend about my latest 'unnecessary purchase!' I decided it was time to direct my indulgence into something constructive. I so here it is URBAN FASHION DOLLY xxx
